Shin Jehyun gained an education in the theory and practice of modern and contemporary art at the Sungkyunkwan University School of Art, where he would go on to pursue his master’s degree and Ph.D. Using extended research, Shin pursues the smallest uncertainties that arise from deeply personal experiences and lays out the information which he collects through such processes in the form of diverse media, including paintings, sound art, performances, video art, publications, and installations. For instance, he has engaged in work on the problem of gentrification in art spaces, the history of South Korean plantations, and the inequitable system behind art museums, revealing the ironies and paradoxical hidden aspects which emerge between socio-political issues and individual experiences.
