Ryu Minja
류민자
Korea, b.1942
Ryu Minja weaves together small planes of color to unfold a mandala-like vision of the wonders of life and the pure land (Jeongto), combining spiritual reflection with a uniquely expressive visual language. Trained in traditional East Asian painting, she was influenced by her husband, painter Ha Indoo, and ventured into abstraction while embracing Western materials to develop a style entirely her own. Although rooted in Eastern painting traditions, Ryu freely explores diverse media—applying acrylic on canvas or pigments on hanji—crossing the boundaries between East and West in both technique and material.
