Chun Hyucklim

전혁림

Korea, 1915 ~ 2010

Chun Hyucklim was a painter based in Tongyeong and Busan who developed a distinctive practice across painting, ceramics, and wood sculpture. Largely self-taught, he created compositions that move between figuration and abstraction, using deep blues inspired by the Tongyeong sea alongside the traditional Korean palette of obangsaek. After Korea’s liberation, he participated in the founding of the Tongyeong Cultural Association and later introduced Informel tendencies in Busan during the 1950s. Reassessed in the late 1970s, he gained wider recognition and established a unique vision of Korean color-field abstraction, continuing his practice actively into his later years.
