Qwon Sunwang (b. 1968) explores life, love, and the traces of existence through richly layered painterly surfaces. This exhibition presents works that investigate the movements of relationships and emotions through scenes of light and flow found within natural landscapes. The organic lines traversing the canvas and the overlapping strata of color do not seek to represent a specific landscape; rather, they reveal the passage of time infused with sensation and memory. For the artist, nature is not merely a subject to be depicted but a structure in which emotions reside. Immaterial elements such as rainbows, wind, and the flow of light emerge through repetitive rhythms and organic compositions, suggesting emotional traces that are created and dissolved within human relationships. Borrowing the forms of landscape, the paintings construct a visual language that expresses the distance, density, and temporal flow inherent in love. Qwon Sunwang has held numerous exhibitions in Seoul, Paris, and other cities both in Korea and abroad. His works are included in the collections of institutions such as the Art Bank of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
