Oh Jeong is a South Korean aesthetic artist who has recently gained attention in Italy. She explores both tradition and modernity, having pioneered her unique ‘Volume Shape’ technique to express the graceful three-dimensionality of the ‘Moon Jar’ on the canvas. Her unique method involves creating volume in the center of the canvas with birch paste, smoothing it with sandpaper, and meticulously attaching finely crushed mother-of-pearl pieces. Since this intricate process requires significant effort and time, she continues her work with great patience, imbuing each piece of mother-of-pearl with her aspirations.According to the review by Art Critic Lee Kyung Mo of the Korean Art Association, Oh Jeong’s work shows existential depth that goes beyond simple representation and reveals structures of continuous cycles and rebirth. Her artistic contemplation seems to approach a pantheistic truth, suggesting that life itself is an abstract concept filled with unsolvable mysteries. What shall we put in the living, breathing Moon Jar? By meticulously attaching finely crushed mother-of-pearl pieces or delicately applying gold, the Moon Jar extends from the center of the canvas to its edges. While it cannot contain anything, it represents an infinite realm capable of holding everything. The calm shape of the Moon Jar shows hidden beauty while hiding the artist's arduous traces of her creation process. It depicts an empty jar of tolerance and possibility, capable of encompassing all sorts of emotions. The artist desires it to be an ordinary jar, not for cherished memories or hidden secrets, but simply to reflect the present moment of living. While crafting these abundant jars, she acknowledges that each day may seem similar, yet upon reflection, each possesses its unique charm. Similarly, she finds that while the jars may appear alike, they carry different meanings for her. Her 'Moon Jar' artworks, expressed on canvas using the 'Volume Shape' technique she pioneered, have consistently gained popularity over the years. She has participated in over 10 solo exhibitions domestically, as well as around 30 domestic and international curated exhibitions, group shows, and art fairs. Collaborating with ARTTOKEN NFT STUDIO to exhibit her body of work as NFT ART (https://2r2.io/) and physical pieces from June 4, 2024, they aim to showcase the beauty of Korean paintings imbued with traditional sentiment to the world. Subsequently, prestigious exhibitions await at renowned museums in Rome and Lecce, Italy.
