Abyss at Noon : Beatrice of Silence

ArtCube 2R2 broadens the boundaries of artistic form and expression in Hwang In-ran’s solo exhibition, "The Abyss of Noon." Through this exhibition, the artist explores a new style, previously unattempted, presenting visually striking depictions of solitude and silence. Hwang In-ran is an artist who has continuously developed her unique aesthetic by creating meditative imagery (Shim Sang-yong), frozen scenes of silence and loneliness (Jung Hyung-tak), and paintings grounded in the principles of life (Park Young-taek). Her meticulous style is characterized by repetitive and layered pencil lines, as well as intricately painted flowers, birds, and girls rendered in acrylic, all serving to evoke solitude, silence, and the soul. This pure landscape feels even more like a labyrinth, as it conceals allegories of awareness, recognition of others, concern, empathy, and sympathetic insight. Her work observes reality without being bound by it, ascending outwardly while descending inwardly. It becomes a vivid space where the artist’s life is both lived and expressed. In this inner sanctuary, a beautiful girl acts as the viewer’s guide, much like Virgil and Beatrice guide Dante. Yet, this place she leads us to may not be some distant ideal, but rather a pathway within reality—one that brings us closer to the indestructible inner self we have been seeking. Perhaps the girl is Beatrice, guiding us along this path…

The Circle of Life

We are delighted to present 'The Circle of Life' by Sungkuen Lee, the first opening exhibition of Art Token's new gallery, Artcube 2R2. This exhibition marks the culmination of his 70-year artistic journey, highlighting his life's work to the world. While preparing for the exhibition, we could sense the accidental yet inevitable forms through which the connections of life and the cycles of nature are embodied in the artist's works. The relationships found in these life phenomena are contradictory and conflicting, yet ultimately achieve harmony and balance. These elements overlap and intersect, spreading out into the world once again, reflecting our current situation. Sungkuen Lee has dedicated his artistic efforts to both Europe and Korea throughout his life. This exhibition brings together the rich tapestry of his experiences, presenting a narrative that unfolds during the transition from summer to autumn in 2024. We are thrilled to feature his exhibition at Artcube 2R2, a space that combines historical and contemporary elements. We hope this exhibition serves as a starting point, leading to the completion of the plan to install Sungkuen Lee's works in overseas art museums and public spaces, realizing the dream of cultural harmony between East and West, connecting people of different races, backgrounds, and cultures through the lines of life intertwined by the artist's intention.
